Cort: Today I have with me Cody Moya who describes himself as a "6'5" slightly balding unknown immigrant” who was able to make $12,764 in 24 hours by putting together one of the largest underground Joint Ventures In Internet Marketing History. He also earned from ONE email sales letter $4,600 that he admits had lots of grammatical errors.

Cody, tell us about how you got your start?

Cody: I am not one of those big time gurus you can find all over Internet. I am immigrant from a non-disclosed country who lives in United States since summer 2003. My English is limited. I make lots of grammatical errors and have a problem speaking English over a phone.

If I can make money in Internet you can make it too. You have all advantages over me. You speak perfect English and you always can answer call from customers. I can’t.

Here is my story.

I immigrated to the US in summer 2003 looking for better live. As you know, to find good job that you like is almost impossible for immigrant who just start living in US with limited English. I can tell you one thing – It was VERY tough.

After some time I started to think that I would never find a job I like and I was very sad about it. Imagine going to the same routine every day and have a job you hate. It was me my first year in US.

After some time I have to choose between going back to my old country and forget my "American dream" or do something about it. I started to think and the only way I saw was Internet business where nobody hears my terrible accent and nobody would ever call me.

After daily expenses I was very afraid to spend even small money left on any so called "gurus" books on how to make money on Internet. I read one or two of the free books I found but those books looked to me fishy. So I DID NOT read any of those big time guru books!

What I did? I started to research myself how others made money. For 1.5 years I was spending all of my free time on research (and I am still researching). For long time my research brought nothing, zero, null. I was really depressed about it and I saw no future for me.

But…one day I started to see a success pattern. I checked it, then double-checked and then checked again. I could not believe but it seems to be what I was looking for during my long research.

I decided to try it. I purchased domain name, web hosting and invest little money (I can not afford more). And then I did I succeeded beyond my dreams.

Cort: WOW, Cody that is an incredible story! I understand that you don’t like to be called an Email marketer even though I can testify that you are really good at it!

Cody: I am marketer who uses opt-in marketing and ezine to deliver valuable information to subscribers including special offer from time to time. I feel that Email Marketing sending just advertisements. In my case I mostly deliver information and knowledge with informative advertisement message from time to time. So I do not want to be called email marketer. I am an Internet Marketer.

Cort: What are your feelings about Plain vs. HTML Email Marketing? What about the Audio and Visual Email?

Cody: Currently only text can be delivered without problems. I switched back to text from trying HTML. As for audio and visual I have not done those either.

Cort: What have been your biggest successes in your business and why? Failures? What would you do differently if you could do things over?

Cody: I have many successes not sure which is biggest. If you are writing about building an opt-in list here’s what I teach:

Step 1 - Create a membership site with a bunch of free quality downloads (ebooks, software, reports)

Step 2 - Password protect the members area

Step 3 - create an exclusive one-time offer on a valuable product and offer it at a healthy discount. Stress this is the only time they will see this offer. At the bottom of the page they can chose to accept the offer and order the product or decline the offer and go straight to the members area to download their free goodies.

Step 4 - Create a lead capture page offering the free quality downloads (ebooks, software, reports). On the capture form you ask for their name, email address and they have to enter a turing number to signup. They need to confirm their email address so you also need to tell them to watch for a confirmation email.

Here's why this is so powerful:

When a user signs up for your membership site free they need to do a number small actions.

1. Signup and fill in a turning number
2. Click the link in the confirmation email they receive
3. Log in to the members area.

There is a very powerful psychological reason for getting them to take these small actions. It is a proven fact that when people get used to taking small actions, they are more likely to take a larger action.

Real estate people don't sell houses. They watch what interests the couple viewing the house. If the woman is elated by the kitchen or bathroom, they sell them on those and the rest of the house goes with them. For the guys it might be the den or the garage. They focus on these and the rest of the house goes with their choice.

They also never ask a client to signup a contract. Instead the question is a much smaller one. They hand them the contract and say, your pen or mine. They know that if the client makes the smaller decision, they have already made the larger one.

This list building technique is currently coverting at around 8%, which means 8 out of every 100 people who sign up order the special one-time offer. And that is way above industry average.

Cort: So Cody what is your advice to Internet newbies and even veterans like myself?

Cody: Most important is to give people good information and knowledge for free. Nobody wants to receive just advertisements. Build you own opt-in list of people who want your information. Comply to email laws.

Cort: I want to be blunt for a minute. If Cody who neither writes nor speaks very good English can succeed beyond most Internet marketers’ dreams it proves that any of us can succeed online if we simply have the desire.

Thanks, Cody for inspiring us all with your marvelous story and I believe you have a gift for us?
