Cort: Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Edmund Loh who is one of the Resell Rights experts of the Net. I know that you are one of the “hotshots” in Internet Marketing; however I would like to know what you did before your Net involvement. When was this? What got you interested in the Net?

Edmund: My background may not be very interesting to the public, but it was a strong motivation for me to get involved in the Net i.e. Internet Marketing. I was formerly working in a chemical manufacturing company and earning a
Supervisor's salary. That was my first and last full time job I took, and right after I left high school.

Cort: Did you see the value of Email Marketing almost immediately after it appeared? What made you get involved with Email Marketing?

Edmund: Not immediately, though I wished! When I stepped into the marketing scene as a novice in the early stages, I had heard about Email Marketing and the popular maxim of "the money is in your list" that often goes along with it, as if they are hand in hand.

It took me quite some time to absorb the idea and concept of how powerful this leverage is. I got myself involved with Email Marketing as soon as I discovered I wasn't maximizing my marketing efforts through paid advertising alone.

Cort: That was a VERY smart move, Edmund! What are you doing to avoid the ever present spam filters from putting your email in spam folders? Are you considering using PDF files to send your ezine like I have started to do?

Edmund: Interesting that you mention PDF E-zines. In fact, I started out with PDF newsletters but the problem was that it was too time and effort consuming for me, even for a monthly production. So the PDF E-zine lasted for only 3-4 months until I went into Text Email marketing.

As I'm increasingly aware of spam filters, it would be impossible to avoid from having every single email from getting filtered since the database of members and subscribers grow every day. But I DO ensure my best to bypass as many as possible.

Some steps include:

[1] Requiring the subscriber/member to whitelist my domain name before subscribing,

[2] Replacing spam-triggering words with other words just as powerful. The obvious example is "free", which can be replaced with "yours to keep", "gift", "on the house", and "$0.00".

I might publish PDF E-zines again in the near future as it is part of my future plans, but it would be a paid newsletter.

Cort: Great replacements for FR**! What are your feelings about Plain vs. HTML Email Marketing? What about the Audio and Visual Email?

Edmund: I have sent out emails in both text and HTML formats, and personally found text to be the best. Not only is it simple, it produces the most open and clickthrough rates for me and that's what matters most.

I can't comment on Audio and visual emails, but at this time of writing, I think they're really "extras" and not necessary.

Cort: What have been your biggest successes in your business and why? Failures? What would you do differently if you could do things over?

Edmund: The biggest success, I have to say, is my last PLRGold Master Rights Pack 3 package which sold at http://www.privatelabelrightsgold.com/ in mid July for 7 days.

By this, I'm not only referring to the sales figures alone, but the fact that I have successfully developed over 160+ JV Partners in a short time and organized the limited time sale event. It beat its former packages in less than 24 hours in terms of sales volume as well. A fourth package is in the making, and from the looks of it, it might just beat the third one as well!

As for failures, I've gone through so many, and I definitely will continue to go through other painful failures. But if must name one, it was ResellRightsMastery.com (no, not the current site you're looking at now).

Before I revamped ResellRightsMastery.com back in June 2006, the site (RRM in short) was a simple free membership site with a few products. But the launch and post-launch campaign failed terribly owing to poor planning and well, a wrong choice of membership script because I was using a very buggy one even against my better judgement! Glad I got that sorted out later.

I've done the site differently now, and revamped and relaunched it! Most people just leave their projects dead hanging the moment they find out it went "kaboom"!

Cort: You are SO right about that Edmund and I congratulate you on the relaunch which as our members will find out will be wonderful for them too! What would be your advice to Internet newbies concerning Email Marketing?

Edmund: Yes, and that would be: train your mailing list. In other words, email your mailing list regardless of its size. It doesn't matter whether you have got 10, 100 or 1,000 subscribers. Most new marketers are often paralyzed from
emailing their list because they are discouraged of its size.

And the trap often is set when they start thinking that the moment they have a thousand subscribers, only then will they start to email. Don't wait for that to happen, as especially the first thousand is the hardest to get for any new Internet Marketer.

The rationale behind this is that you want to train your subscribers to receive emails from you. Yes, it's a must. Some will unsubscribe so do expect that to happen. Some may get angry or nasty, some others may find it's not what they're looking for. But the sooner you weed out the less interested, the better for both parties.

Besides, you want to build a responsive list above its size. There are true success stories of marketers making a killing from a list as small as 800, and even a small group of 24 people!

Cort: GREAT advice, Edmund, and that is the first time I have heard of “training your mailing list” which makes total sense. And Edmund you have a wonderful gift for our readers that I hinted at.

Edmund: Yes I would like to offer my Lifetime Gold Membership Access to ResellRightsMastery.com valued at $197.00 and they can sign up at Signup link at http://www.resellrightsmastery.com/thankyou-gold1.php where they have instant access to a collection of hot Resell Rights items, Private Label articles, Advanced Reseller Strategies, templates, and much, much more!
