Cort: With me today is Dr. Tim, a doctor who spends his spare time helping others through his wonderful finanacial/debt reduction recordings. I know that you are one of the new “hotshots” in Internet Marketing; however I would like to know what you did before your Net involvement. When was this? What got you interested in the Net?
Dr. Tim: Thanks for the compliment but really I am just a guy having fun doing what I love. Teach/coach and share with others some of the things I have learned over the years including the forementioned financial recordings. I have been there where I had NO idea where the next dollar was coming from even as a doctor as you learn in my recordings.
Before Net involvement? Actually I think I have always been on the Net. LOL! Just not marketing. I can remember typing DOS commands and the old cradle phone modems to connect to university databases or BB’s. I was completely fascinated by the ability of the computer to run software programs. (Heck, I was fascinated by the first calculator I owned!)
While in engineering school I began to learn FORTRAN and BASIC computer languages. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a programmer. I learn just enough to make something I want to do work.
I guess you could best label me a “Life Student”. I study and observe “Life”. But my “day job” over the past 14 years has been running my Health Care practice.
Cort: Yes, that was a MOVING story you shared about the promise you made your wife and kids about the “belated” Christmas presents. Dr. Tim, did you see the value of Email Marketing almost immediately after it appeared? What made you get involved with Email Marketing?
Dr. Tim: Although I have been on the net from the beginning it was just a tool for my never ending quest for knowledge and understanding. Only in the past year have I actually begun to “market” anything. For two reasons really. One I saw it as a way to reach and help many people worldwide. With knowledge and information of things I have learned in my study of “life” I feel I can make their world and this one a little better place.
Second, I saw it as a way for me to “free” myself to better roam the world (and learn and study more). With a laptop and Internet connection you can be anywhere in the world and still connect with your people and business by email.
I love caring for the patients in my office but it does require me to remain in one location and “go into” the office each day. Been there, done that, ready to move on.
Cort: Boy, can I identify with the “freedom” to go and do! I just purchased a way cool HP iPAQ 4350 PDA with WiFi and Bluetooth. Don't have a clue how to make this baby sing yet but I'm struggling through it!
Dr. Tim, what are you doing to avoid the ever present spam filters from putting your email in spam folders? Are you considering using PDF files to send your ezine like I have started to do?
Dr. Tim: This is becoming the ultimate question isn’t it?
I believe things are beginning to change that will overcome this problem soon but for now I am focusing on keeping my emails as short as possible to avoid keyword filtering. I am redirecting to sharing the bulk of my information on blogs.
PDF files are a great idea and as Tuks Engineer said in your April 26, 2006 interview “PDF newsletters are among the most responsive types around”.
Being the teacher/coach that I am, true communication and connection is very important to me. This is neither the time nor place to get into discussing and understanding levels of communication but it is one of the most complicated things we do as human beings. (Hence the degree of troubles we have in relationships.)
Most communication is non-verbal (not the words but inflections) so with this in mind I use audio in almost everything I do. Video is better (of course live and in person is the best) but video is just coming of age on the Net.
Cort: Tuks and I have become “fast” friends and email each other constantly. And you are the one who shared with me the new VIDEO Launch we are both so excited about. As a 25 year vet of video production it is definitely going to be the wave of the future on the Net. For those of you curious as to what Dr. Tim and I are involved in go to http://theworldlaunch.com/hugh009
Dr. Tim, what are your feelings about Plain vs. HTML Email Marketing? What about the Audio and Visual Email?
Dr. Tim: This one is debated up and down the street.
I prefer HTML but most often send Plain text emails. I usually try to identify myself in the subject line of my email. We get so bombarded by email. So like most I am quickly scanning subject lines to see if I am going to open the email. If I am giving true benefit to my readers and respecting their time, then each time I send something they will come to enjoy seeing my emails arrive. By identifying myself in the subject line with my topic it allows them to quickly scan and identify the emails I send.
Because communication is so important to me I have looked at most everything available for audio and visual emails. But so far applying the combination of short emails that direct to a blog with audio seems to work best for this medium. However I think that you and I know with what we are seeing on the horizon with VIDEO that is rapidly changing!
Cort: So, what have been your biggest successes in your business and why? Failures? What would you do differently if you could do things over?
Dr. Tim: Failures only exist in the judgment of something that did not turn out according to your expectations. But I have had more than my share of life lessons and challenges.
Don’t ever desire to change anything about your life because every step has been crucial to your development. I don’t want to get philosophical here because I will go for hours.
Even though you may not understand and even though things may have been difficult up till now, see your life as a perfect plan and don’t worry so much. If you truly desire success it will come to you. The preparation for it is the difficult part.
I share with many of my students, you will “get it” until you “get” it.
Cort: Yes, I'm one of those students and I used to hear something similar to what you just said from my teacher, Bill Thaw, the co-founder of EST. What would be your advice to Internet newbie’s concerning Email Marketing?
Dr. Tim: All of life is about attitude and perceptions. The longer it takes you to learn that it is all about GIVING the greater your struggle will be getting where you want to go. Don’t do this to “get” what you want from others. Do it to “give” to others what you uniquely have to share and discover the person you will become along the journey.
If you don’t like what is in your life now or want something different/better, you will need a new “mind” to create that. Develop yourself and find mentors/teachers who can help.
Cort: I sure have to agree with you there, Dr. Tim! I am still working with mentors/teachers including my new business partner in a new venture we have called HeartFeltLives. He is a Heart Coach. This will be a unique form of networking around the world where you will have to follow only two rules: you will NEVER be allowed to share how much money you earn or your profession. If anyone out there wants to learn more please email me at hugh009@gmail.com.
Now Dr. Tim not only has a gift to give you but THREE! And they are truly SUPER ones!
Dr. Tim: As I said, I love to give things so there are three gifts I would like to share:
1) In the spirit of my lesson above about giving, I would like to include a link to Joe Vitale’s “Greatest Money Making Secret in History”.
2) My $995 Credit Mastery course.
3) I have a new project I am developing called “Live Pain Free for LIFE” where I share my very best information about restoring health and reversing aging in a free newsletter/blog. When this project is fully developed I will have a never seen before affiliate program that is going to turn some heads. Those on my newsletter for this site/blog will be the first to know.
So here is the page for these gifts: http://www.drtim.info/cort.html
